About Sandra's work.

Sandra's work addresses how we relate to our complex modern world and the way we experience it. The contrast for example between the feeling of space whilst walking along a beach, and the complex experience of city life. As a result her images appear very different. The city images are multi-layered and often monochromatic whilst the seascapes are minimalist and introduce subtle colour. She carefully chooses environments to enhance such contrasting relationships. Often the people in the beach images are small compared to the enormity of nature, whereas the people in the city images are large and multi-layered, jostling beside each other. This exploration of scale and changing perspectives on life results in some interesting and unusual formats for presentation.

Her work successfully captures the atmosphere of a place or situation and condenses our human experience. Her panoramic images are taken from many different vantage-points, often along 'a walk' or 'a journey'. These individual images are melded together to provide a single composite image which communicates a 'sense of place', an 'experience', rather than a snapshot in time.

Sandra is intensely interested in what we do with our lives and seeks to find this in everyday activity. She opens our eyes to the world around us, forcing us to see the familiar in a new light and to take a fresh look at the world or a new angle on life.

Using the formal elements of the visual language competently to produce strong and compelling images of a contemporary nature, she urges us to reflect on the world around us and the contrasting environments in which we now live.
