Media and techniques
The exploration of scale is integral to Sandra's work and results in some interesting and unusual formats for presentation. Her images are printed, often onto canvas, using large format digital production techniques before being worked into with paint. This ambitious scale, like the large field paintings by Mark Rothko, is meant to evoke as much a physical response as a psychological one.
Sandra moves with ease from one medium to another, creatively exploring traditional materials and processes, alongside the latest technology. She clearly enjoys this interaction - a unique method of working, using both print and paint together with contemporary digital media.
Whilst some of her photographic images appear to capture the immediacy of the moment, and the naturalness of people in everyday activity, they force us to question our perception of reality. For far from spontaneous, these images are highly considered, developed and manipulated. Her panoramic images are taken from many different vantage points, often along 'a walk' or 'a journey'. These individual images are melded together to provide a single composite image which communicates a 'sense of place', an 'experience', rather than a snapshot in time.
